Everton boss Ronald Koeman plays down title talk

Everton boss Ronald Koeman rubbishes suggestions that his team are capable of winning the Premier League title this season.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has played down suggestions that his team can win the Premier League title this season, despite an impressive start to the 2016-17 campaign.

The Toffees have collected 13 points from their five Premier League matches this season, with that total leaving them second in the table behind Manchester City, who have won all five fixtures.

Despite Leicester City's surprise success last season, Koeman does not believe that his team can win the league this term due to the quality of the sides around them.

"Normally, we can't win the title - I think what Leicester did last season was an exception," Koeman told reporters. "I don't think so. I am realistic. If I tell you we will fight for the title I think most people will say 'that man is crazy'. Even when I mention that, I'm not crazy?

"Why do we need to change our mind about our aspiration and ambition after 13 points from five games? The big teams have much more qualities and if they are not disappointing like last season it will be impossible."

Everton will switch their attention to the League Cup on Tuesday night as they face Norwich City in the third round.
