Marcel Brands replaces Steve Walsh as Everton's director of football

Marcel Brands is appointed as Everton's new director of football, replacing Steve Walsh in the position after being brought in from PSV Eindhoven.

Managerless Premier League side Everton have brought in Marcel Brands from PSV Eindhoven as their new director of football.

The 54-year-old will assume the role that has been held by Steve Walsh for the past two years, as the Toffees rejig their coaching and backroom setup.

On the same day that Sam Allardyce was given the shove, PSV have confirmed that Brands will take up the position at Goodison Park from this summer.

A statement from Brands read: "It's really hard to let go of something that's good, but I'm going to do that anyway. In my job, too, the Premier League is of course a great thing.

"It is the biggest competition in the world in all respects. I now get the chance to do something in my own way. I am really looking forward to that."

Brands departs the Dutch club on the back of their third Eredivisie title success in four seasons.
