Sergio Garcia: "A captain can't jump ship"

Experienced forward Sergio Garcia claims that he never considered leaving Espanyol despite a lucrative offer from China.

Sergio Garcia has insisted that he never considered the possibility of leaving Espanyol despite receiving a lucrative offer from China.

It is thought that the 31-year-old was offered £15m over two seasons – after tax – to join Chinese second division team Hebei Zhongji.

However, the experienced forward has claimed that he could never leave 'his home' in Barcelona.

"A captain can't jump ship. These are my people and this is my home," Garcia told Espanyol TV. "My heart told me I couldn't leave and so it has proved, which is why I rejected the offer. I'm very happy here and I hope the fans are with me too."

Garcia, who started his career with Barcelona, has been with Espanyol since 2010.
