Frank Lampard: 'It'll be tough to keep England place for World Cup'

Frank Lampard believes that he will have a "tough" task in trying to keep hold of his place in the England squad for next season's World Cup.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted that it will be "very tough" for him to keep his place in the England side for next year's World Cup in Brazil.

Lampard, who will be nearing 36 when the Three Lions jet to South America for the competition, believes that a number of young stars will be trying to edge out the older players.

"It's going to be very tough," Lampard said in a press conference. "It's a great position for the manager to be in.

"A couple of years ago we were saying 'where is the youth' and 'where are the exciting players' but the young players that have come in have stepped up and are playing without fear.

"Every player is in the manager's thoughts but it's up to everyone to stake their claims. There is a big gap from these two matches to the next games so you have to put everything into it, then get back to our clubs and play well for them."

Lampard will captain England for tomorrow night's friendly against Chile at Wembley.
