Sven-Goran Eriksson: 'A foreigner would have been sacked'

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson feels that a foreign manager would have been sacked if he had failed to guide the team past the group stages at the World Cup.

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has expressed his belief that if the Three Lions were managed by a foreigner he would have been sacked for their group-stage exit at the World Cup.

The 66-year-old managed England for five years and guided them to two quarter-final appearances in the tournament, but was criticised for some sub-standard performances in those competitions.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke announced that Roy Hodgson would remain as boss despite the Three Lions' failure in Brazil, and Eriksson is adamant that a foreigner would not be granted the same leeway.

"I know for sure, if that had been me, I would have been sacked at once," he told The Telegraph.

"If he were foreign, he would be sacked. I'm quite sure about that."

England face Costa Rica in their final World Cup game on Tuesday.
