Roy Hodgson: 'Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez deserve chance'

England manager Roy Hodgson admits that he has been impressed with the performances of Southampton pair Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez this season.

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that he has followed the performances of Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez closely during Southampton's impressive start to the season.

Both players have performed well during the opening few months of the campaign, and after he selected them in his 28-man squad to face Chile and Germany, Hodgson has admitted that he is keen to find out more about the duo during the 10-day training camp.

The former Fulham boss told reporters: "We have been following Adam closely this season, and I think that he has played a major part in Southampton's rise to the top this season. I think it was quite obvious that we would pick him.

"As for Jay, I see him as someone who could fill the same role as Danny Welbeck. He's a wide forward, who likes to attack people with and without the ball, and to get into the penalty area.

"We think that he has played well for Southampton, and we think that this might be an interesting opportunity for us for to find out a bit more about him, because up until now, our only information of him has come from the stands."

Lallana has scored twice in 11 appearances this season, while Rodriguez has netted three times in his last five games.
