Glenn Hoddle has hinted that Joey Barton's recent criticism of the England setup is partly because he is not involved.
The Queens Park Rangers midfielder recently branded the England team as "shit" and claimed that the the Football Association Commission to which the former coach had been appointed to was a "waste of time".
"Everyone has got their own opinion but he would not have that opinion if he was in the squad at the moment, put it that way," Hoddle told talkSPORT.
"It was a foolish thing to say but, at the end of the day, that is Joey and he has got his own agenda."
Barton, 31, made his only appearance in an England shirt as a substitute in a 0–1 defeat to Spain in 2007.
