England coach Fabio Capello says he is hopeful that Wayne Rooney's behaviour after he was shown red in Montenegro may help his appeal.

England coach Fabio Capello has said that he is hopeful that the FA appeal over Wayne Rooney's red card at Montenegro last month will be successful.

The Italian described Rooney's behaviour once he had been shown the card as "perfect" and said he accepts that the 26-year-old will have tantrums from time to time.

"He is a great player, very generous on the pitch," said Capello. "Sometimes these eruptions happen with players. Normally he is really good. But this happens. Now we need to wait for the appeal."

Manchester United striker Rooney kicked out unnecessarily at Miodrag Dzudovic and is currently set to miss three games at next year's European finals in Poland and Ukraine.

However, Capello, 65, believes Rooney's conduct immediately after the red card may help.

"He walked - it was perfect," said the England coach.

"There was no question against the referee, nothing. He understood he made a big mistake and walked straight to the dressing room.

"That is a really important thing [for the] appeal."

Rooney is to be rested for the upcoming international friendlies against Spain and Sweden.
