UEFA announces seedings for Euro 2016

UEFA confirms the seedings for the draw of the group stages of Euro 2016, which takes place next month.

UEFA have announced the final seedings for Euro 2016 following the conclusion of the qualification campaign.

The 24 teams that have qualified have been split into four pots of six and will be drawn into six groups of four for the tournament.

England are in Pot One for the draw following their perfect qualifying record, which saw them win all 10 of their matches.

The Republic of Ireland, who secured their place in France via the playoffs this week, will be in Pot Four, along with home nations Wales and Northern Ireland, who will both participate in their first European Championships.

Iceland and Albania, who have also qualified for the first time, are among the bottom seeds, with 2008 semi-finalists Turkey also in the fourth pot.

England will avoid holders Spain, hosts France and world champions Germany, along with Portugal and Belgium, who are all in Pot One.

However, Roy Hodgson's men could come up against Italy, who are among the second seeds and have beaten the Three Lions at the last two major tournaments.

The draw for the finals takes place in Paris on December 12, with the tournament itself beginning on June 10, 2016.
