Report: Mixu Paatelainen to lose Dundee United job

Mixu Paatelainen will reportedly leave his position as Dundee United manager in the next 48 hours after the club's relegation was confirmed.

Dundee United will reportedly sack manager Mixu Paatelainen after their relegation from the Scottish Premiership was confirmed last night.

The Tannadice outfit's fate was sealed with Monday's 2-1 defeat to city rivals Dundee, and Paatelainen was quick to insist that he would not walk away.

However, chairman Stephen Thompson promised "radical changes" in a statement today and, according to Sky Sports News, Paatelainen's time is up.

"Dundee United have let you, the supporters, down this season," wrote Thompson in a club statement. "I apologise unreservedly to all of you for our relegation from the Ladbrokes Premiership.

"As the chairman, the buck stops with me and I accept full responsibility for what has happened. The big decisions were mine and I got some of them wrong.

"I have backed managers with the third biggest budget in the league but the results have not been acceptable. In the near future, many radical changes will be made to try to ensure our quick return to the top league."

United are dropping down to the second tier of Scottish football for the first time in 21 years.
