One Direction star Louis Tomlinson fails to complete Doncaster Rovers takeover

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson says that he is "gutted" after his proposed takeover of Doncaster Rovers fell through.

One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson has failed to seal his proposed takeover of League One side Doncaster Rovers.

The 22-year-old, who rose to fame with the boyband on The X Factor, agreed to take charge of the club alongside former chairman John Ryan.

However, the deal has fallen through because not enough money was raised through the Crowdfunder project to cover the takeover.

Tomlinson expressed his disappointment on Twitter and claims that he was "misled", as he believed that the takeover was not solely dependent on the Crowdfunder project.

The singer, whose hometown club is Doncaster, tweeted: "I'm absolutely gutted the Doncaster Rovers deal is not going ahead. I am desperate for the club to be given the recognition it deserves :(. I was explicitly told that the deal to buy the club was not dependent on the money raised by Crowdfunding . Unfortunately I was misled.

"My passion for Doncaster Rovers remains as strong as ever, and I hope that I can still be involved with the club moving forward! And to all the Doncaster Rovers fans, I will do all in my power to help the club succeed. I really do love the club!

"For the record, I insisted contractually I would never earn a penny from DRFC. I simply wanted to help club & community. Still hoping I can."

Tomlinson launched plans to raise £100,000 by charging supporters £250 to take their photo with him before Doncaster's matches next season.
