Last-gasp Lloyd Sam equaliser denies DC United

Lloyd Sam grabs a late equaliser as New York Red Bulls complete their two-goal comeback by drawing 2-2 away at DC United.

Lloyd Sam grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser as New York Red Bulls came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with DC United at the RFK Stadium this evening.

Goals in either half from Perry Kitchen had United cruising by the 67-minute mark as Bill Olsen's side looked good for a third successive victory.

However, Damien Perrinelle reduced the arrears moments after DC's second to introduce the element of doubt into the hosts' bid, and Sam tapped home with minutes remaining to deny the capital club.

It took some 13 minutes for the clash to throw up a goalscoring opportunity, and it was for the visitors as Chris Duvall saw his effort denied by Bill Hamid.

Ben Olsen's side gradually grew into the encounter and came close on 19 minutes when Chris Rolfe latched on to Michael Farfan's ball but he failed to beat Luis Robles.

Robles could do nothing about the goal, though, as Kitchen nodded home a Taylor Kemp cross from point-blank range to give the hosts a slender half-time lead.

Jesse Marsch's side emerged strongly from the break and twice went close throught talisman Bradley Wright-Phillips and Matt Miazga on 57 minutes.

Both proved costly miss as Kitchen wrapped up his double by curling from outside the area, yet the lead lasted less than a minute as Perrinelle then headed home from a corner to provide an instant riposte.

The goal only sought to spur on the hosts further as Olsen's men finished strongly, with Rolfe and Bobby Boswell missing chances to seal the win.

They were punished, however, as Sam tapped home from close range after Sacha Kljestan's effort was saved.
