Julian Speroni desperate for Crystal Palace contract talks

Long-serving goalkeeper Julian Speroni is desperate to stay at Crystal Palace and urges the club's board to schedule a meeting to discuss his expiring contract.

Goalkeeper Julian Speroni has reiterated that he wants to stay at Crystal Palace and has urged the club's board to schedule talks over his contract extension.

The Argentine's current deal at Selhurst Park expires in the summer and his future is yet to be discussed.

Palace signed Wayne Hennessey from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £3m in January, but long-serving stopper Speroni, who has played every game of their Premier League season, kept his place in Tony Pulis's team to earn the Fans' Player of the Year award.

The same supporters gave the 34-year-old a standing ovation after the remarkable 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Monday night, and Speroni is hopeful that that was not a final farewell to the club he loves.

Speroni told Sky Sports News: "It was an emotional night. I thought this could be my last night and, hopefully not, but if it was my last game for the club I wanted to say thank you and goodbye.

"I know the club want me to stay and I want to stay which is great but we haven't spoken yet and we need to sit down. It's normal that clubs are going to sniff around. I was always very clear what I wanted to do - that I wanted to stay at this football club - and that hasn't changed."

On his latest fans' award, he added: "It's incredible. The fans have been amazing - they have given me an incredible 10 years and I want to thank them for their support and all the love they gave me.

"This year has been a dream - the achievement of staying in the Premier League which was our target."

Speroni joined Palace from Dundee United in 2004 and has since made 351 appearances.
