Sam Allardyce: 'I wish Roy Hodgson all the best'

Former Crystal Palace and England manager Sam Allardyce wishes Roy Hodgson all the best as he prepares to take over at Selhurst Park.

Former Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has wished Roy Hodgson "all the best" when he takes over at Selhurst Park.

The 70-year-old is expected to be appointed as the new Eagles boss within the next 24 hours after Frank de Boer was relieved of his duties on Monday, having suffered defeat in each of his first four Premier League games in charge.

Allardyce succeeded Hodgson as England manager last summer but was sacked after just one game at the helm following a media sting which had seen him label his predecessor "too indecisive" while also claiming that Hodgson's training methods had sent the players "to sleep".

"His experience will be a big factor," Allardyce told talkSPORT. "You can't substitute experience and experience is sometimes what's needed in the Premier League.

"Roy has a calm and cool head. When you're an experienced manager and everyone around you is panicking, you have to stay calm and make the right decisions.

"I think Roy will be more than capable of coping with the situation, getting Crystal Palace to play better and also get that first result, however you get it.

"When you look at where Roy has been in his career, in terms of international teams and at foreign clubs - it shows you his love for football. If he does take the job today, I wish him all the very best."

Allardyce has previously revealed that he turned down an approach to reprise his role with Palace in the wake of De Boer's departure.
