Croatia's Domagoj Vida dodges FIFA ban ahead of World Cup final

Domagoj Vida will be available for selection when Croatia take on France in the World Cup final after dodging a FIFA ban.

Croatia defender Domagoj Vida has been given the green light by FIFA's Disciplinary Committee to feature in Sunday's World Cup final against France.

The 29-year-old risked missing the showpiece match in Moscow due to inflammatory political comments made in the wake of the Vatreni's win over Russia last week.

Assistant coach Ognjen Vukojevic has since been sacked by Croatia following the emergence of remarks in reference to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Vida was cleared by FIFA to play in the semi-final win against England, but fresh footage emerged of the Besiktas man making similar remarks.

FIFA has again decided against punishing Vida with a ban of any sort, however, and he is now likely to start alongside Dejan Lovren against France.

A statement from the governing body read: "After thoroughly analysing the second video of the Croatian player Domagoj Vida that appeared in the media and having considered the player's submission, the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee ascertained that it was recorded before the initial sanction imposed on Mr Vida and has concluded that no additional infringement of the FIFA regulations has been committed."

Vida is rumoured to be a summer transfer target for Premier League side Liverpool.
