Michel Platini says that he is 'unhappy' with the Croatia supporters after the national side were charged by UEFA for fans' alleged monkey chants towards Mario Balotelli.

UEFA president Michel Platini has hit out at Croatia supporters by claiming that they have tainted the European Championships for alleged racist chanting.

The Croatian national side were charged by the European governing body after their fans taunted Italy striker Mario Balotelli with alleged monkey chants during the Croats' 1-1 draw in Poznan on Thursday.

"I am not happy with the Croatian people," BBC Sport quotes Platini as saying. "It's a matter of society and education. It's not just in eastern Europe, there is nationalism in all countries. But one case [of racism] is one too many."

The Frenchman also described the conduct of the competition as "99% great", despite the alleged racist incidents throughout the tournament.
