Chicago Fire edge five-goal thriller against 10-man Toronto

Jeff Larentowicz's strike sees Chicago Fire beat 10-man Toronto 3-2 to move into third in the Eastern Conference.

Chicago Fire moved into third in the Eastern Conference as a Jeff Larentowicz strike saw them beat 10-man Toronto in a five-goal MLS thriller.

The hosts edged in front on 14 minutes when Joevin Jones latched on to Shaun Maloney's pass before tucking the ball past Joe Bendik.

Toronto equalised six minutes later as Sebastian Giovinco scored his first goal for the Canadians since his winter move from Italian champions Juventus.

Giovinco then turned provider for another new signing in Benoit Cheyrou, who opened his account for Toronto.

However, Chicago levelled through Maloney, with the ex-Wigan Athletic midfielder turning home Harrison Shipp's pinpoint delivery early in the second half.

Shipp was also involved in Fire's third goal on 68 minutes after he teed up Larentowicz, who calmly beat Bendik moments after Warren Creavalle was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Despite a late effort from Giovinco, Chicago were able to hold on and move three points behind Eastern Conference leaders New York Red Bulls.
