Chelsea captain John Terry open to prospect of leaving club

John Terry says that seeing out the final seasons of his playing career abroad "is an option", but is only focusing on helping Chelsea until his current deal expires.

John Terry has revealed that he intends to continue playing for another couple of seasons, but admits that he may have to leave Chelsea next summer if he is to play on a regular basis.

The 35-year-old has had to watch on from the sidelines over the past two months following manager Antonio Conte's decision to switch to a 3-4-3 formation, being restricted to just one EFL Cup start in that time.

Terry, who is currently nursing a muscular injury and is not available for selection, is hopeful of prolonging his spell at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of his current deal, but is not against the idea of ending his career elsewhere.

"I still want to play for a couple more years, whether that is here at Chelsea or somewhere abroad, I don't know. It's an option," he is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard.

"I am contracted to Chelsea for this season and then will see after that. I'm doing my coaching badges. I don't know if I want to be a coach but I want to do my badges and pass."

Terry has featured seven times for Chelsea in all competitions this term, though he has been given just six minutes of playing time in the Premier League since mid-September.
