Roma managing director Mauro Baldissoni has confirmed that Edin Dzeko will not leave the club on deadline day.
The 31-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, although reports emerged earlier this week that his proposed switch to Stamford Bridge had broken down.
Chelsea did complete the signing of defender Emerson Palmieri from Roma yesterday, but the Serie A outfit have ruled out the possibility of Dzeko following him to West London.
"If Roma had needed to sell Edin Dzeko, we could have pushed to do so," Baldissoni is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"Instead, the club maintained a clear position. We did not panic, we did not try to accelerate negotiations. Edin is a great player and we are happy that he is staying here."
Chelsea are understood to have switched their focus to Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who is reportedly undergoing a medical with the Premier League champions.
