Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the situation of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Liverpool and Chelsea are both reportedly interested in Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

After being relegated from the Premier League, the Saints are expected to receive bids for a number of their key players this summer.

Lavia, who completed a £12.5m transfer from Manchester City last summer, is viewed as one of Southampton's most prized assets.

Despite struggling with injury issues in the first half of the season, Lavia has made 34 competitive appearances this term, registering one goal and one assist.

Lavia's performances have seemingly caught the attention of at least two of the Premier League's biggest clubs.

According to The Times, Liverpool and Chelsea are both keeping tabs on Lavia's situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are expected to make additions to their midfield this summer with James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all departing at the end of the season.

The Reds have been linked with Brighton & Hove Albion's Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea's Mason Mount, and it appears that Lavia could also be under consideration.

Chelsea, meanwhile, may need to strengthen their midfield if the likes of Mount and Conor Gallagher leave the club this summer.

The report states that they have held a long-term interest in Lavia, and had a bid rejected by Southampton just weeks after the 19-year-old joined the South-coast club.

Southampton are expected to ask for a fee in excess of £40m for a player that is under contract until the summer of 2027.

As part of the transfer agreed with Southampton last summer, Man City have the right to match any bid for the midfielder, but they are unlikely to take up the opportunity this summer.

Liverpool will be able to see Lavia up close on Sunday when they face his Southampton side at St Mary's on the final day of the Premier League season.
