Midfielder Jorginho reveals that he is keen to extend his stay at Chelsea past the end of this season.

Jorginho has acknowledged that he would like to sign a new contract at Chelsea.

The midfielder departed Napoli to move to Stamford Bridge in 2018 and he has since gone on to make 207 appearances in all competitions, scoring 29 goals.

Jorginho has also played key roles in the Champions League and Europa League being won during his time at the club, making 12 appearances on the way to success in European football's premier competition in 2020-21.

However, despite remaining as a regular under Graham Potter this season, the Italy international is currently in line to leave the Blues in the summer.

Just over six months remain on the 31-year-old's contract and it is currently unclear whether the club's new owners plan to offer a renewal.

As well as being well stocked for options in the centre of the pitch, it has been reported in the past that there is a desire to refresh the club's midfield.

In an interview with talkSPORT on Thursday, Jorginho revealed that he wanted to stay at Chelsea, even though he insisted that he wanted to focus on his performances on the pitch.

Jorginho said: "Of course I do, I love Chelsea, but this is a thing I'm not going to think about now. I need to think about winning games. Otherwise it's a problem.

"I'll focus game by game and then we'll see what's going to happen, but my mind is on Chelsea now and trying to win as many games as possible."

Developments surrounding Chelsea's midfield are expected to play out in due course, with N'Golo Kante also in an identical situation to his long-term teammate.

Barcelona have been credited with an interest in both players, attracted by their potential free-agent status, and the relevant parties are free to discuss a potential transfer from January onwards.

Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are also midfield options tied to Chelsea, while the West Londoners can activate a clause to sign Juventus loanee Denis Zakaria in the summer, even though that currently looks unlikely at this stage.

Over the past 24 hours, it has also been alleged that Chelsea are on the brink of signing Brazilian prospect Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama.

While it is unclear whether the 18-year-old will immediately compete for a first-team role, it is another indication that Chelsea are bidding to make alterations in that position.
