Chelsea reportedly agree a deal to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who is now set to undergo a medical ahead of the prospective move.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

The Blues have experienced a busy transfer window, having seen a significant turnover of players ahead of Enzo Maresca's first season in charge.

Chelsea have sold Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson, while Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Hakim Ziyech have all left on free transfers.

While they have seen six players depart, Chelsea have also made several additions to their squad, having recruited Tosin Adarabioyo, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, Omari Kellyman, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marc Guiu.

The Blues are still keen to strengthen in a number of areas ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, including in the goalkeeper department.

Chelsea agree deal to sign Jorgensen

A recent report claimed that Chelsea were in negotiations with Villarreal over a transfer for the highly-rated Jorgensen.

According to The Athletic, the Blues have reached an agreement over a €24.5million (£20.7m) deal to prise Jorgensen away from the Spanish club.

The 22-year-old, who only penned a new five-year deal with Villarreal last month, is now expected to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea which will run until the summer of 2031.

Jorgensen will travel to the United States to undergo a medical and link up with his new teammates on the club's pre-season tour.

Having drawn with Wrexham and lost 4-1 with Celtic, Chelsea are now preparing for Wednesday's friendly with Club America in Atlanta.

The Blues will wrap up their pre-season tour with games against Manchester City and Real Madrid, before they return to Stamford Bridge for a friendly with Inter Milan.

Jorgensen to become Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper

Jorgensen spent time in Villarreal's youth setup as well as the B team, before he made his first-team debut in January 2023.

The shot-stopper established himself as Villarreal's first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the 2023-24 campaign, going on to feature in 36 of the club's 38 La Liga matches.

Jorgensen was a busy man during his first top-flight campaign, making 143 stops to finish the season more saves than any other goalkeeper in La Liga.

Once he completes his move from Villarreal, Jorgensen is expected to be instilled as Chelsea's new number-one, moving ahead of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic in the pecking order.

There is a belief that Chelsea could look to offload Petrovic just one year after signing him from MLS side New England Revolution.
