Former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has claimed that the club would be foolish to let Pedro leave this summer.
Chelsea have been repeatedly linked with a move for the Spanish winger in recent weeks as Jose Mourinho looks to ensure that his squad is strong enough to defend the Premier League title.
Pedro has denied that he has held talks with Mourinho about a move to Stamford Bridge, and Abidal, who will be named Barcelona's sporting director if Joan Laporta wins the presidential election, believes that the 27-year-old is a key part of the club's future.
"Players such as Pedro cannot be allowed to go," he told reporters. "I know him as a player but also as a person. He is a player who fits into the first team very well. When we won everything in 2009, the most important goals were his.
"The work was of the whole team, but sometimes you have to go into the finer details and Pedro is a player who always gives these details.
"Pedro is still an important part of this squad, but everyone knows that the player always wants to play and before he had more minutes than now. If Laporta wins, we will look at his future."
A release clause in Pedro's contract, which was renewed in April, is believed to be set at £21.2m.
