The future of Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is reportedly uncertain after the two parties fail to make progress in contract talks.

The future of Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is reportedly shrouded in uncertainty.

The Senegal international joined Chelsea in September 2020, and he has gone on to keep 49 clean sheets in 104 appearances across all competitions.

Mendy began the current campaign as the club's first-choice goalkeeper, but he lost his place in the side to Kepa Arrizabalaga following Graham Potter's arrival.

The 31-year-old returned to the lineup to start Chelsea's final two Premier League games before the World Cup due to an injury to Arrizabalaga.

However, Mendy has been out of action since the World Cup break after undergoing surgery on a fractured finger in January.

Following a spell on the sidelines, Mendy stepped up his recovery by returning to full training this week.

Although he is nearing a return to the matchday squad, according to The Times, his long-term future at Stamford Bridge appears to be in doubt.

Mendy's contract runs until June 2025, and co-owner Todd Boehly wants to prevent players from entering the final two years of their contracts.

Boehly's stance is a response to the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who were both allowed to run down their deals under the previous ownership, and as result, they left on free transfers last summer.

The club have reportedly held contract talks with Mendy, but as it stands, the two parties have been unable to reach an agreement.

Chelsea are believed to be prioritising contract negotiations with Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante.

Mount and Kovacic are both set to enter the final 12 months of their respective deals in the summer, while Kante is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Frenchman, who is nearing a long-awaited return from injury, is believed to be close to agreeing a new contract.

With Mendy's future uncertain, Chelsea are considering potential goalkeeper targets for the summer transfer window.

Brentford's David Raya, Leeds United's Illan Meslier and Brighton & Hove Albion's Robert Sanchez have all been linked with the West London club.
