Roberto Di Matteo claims that Frank Lampard can still be an influential member of the Chelsea squad this season.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has claimed that Frank Lampard can still have a huge influence on Chelsea next season.

Lampard had been linked with move to the United States earlier this summer but Di Matteo has backed his player to come back strong after missing Euro 2012 through injury.

"Frank is a very fit man and can play for many years to come," said Di Matteo.

"He was very influential towards the end of last season maybe playing a little deeper role. He made some key passes and he performed well.

"I was very happy. It depends on how he feels physically and mentally and I don't see any problems with him going on."

Lampard will face competition for a starting berth from new signings but still remains integral to Di Matteo's plans in West London.
