Kevin de Bruyne has revealed that he could leave Werder Bremen when his loan deal with the German club runs out at the end of the season.
The Belgium international midfielder says that his parent club Chelsea want him to play at "a higher level" to retain his chances of becoming part of the team's future.
"Chelsea have decided I should play on a higher level to develop even better," he told reporters. "I had a good year. I played a lot and on a solid level.
"That was fantastic for me, I am very happy with this year. It is my plan to compete in Europe next season."
De Bruyne's contract with Chelsea runs until 2017.
