Burnley are set to send midfielder Danny Drinkwater back to Chelsea in January when his loan expires, according to a report.

Burnley are reportedly set to send midfielder Danny Drinkwater back to Chelsea in January when his loan expires.

The 29-year-old has struggled to establish himself in the Clarets' midfield, featuring just once since making his temporary move from the Blues.

While Sean Dyche's men have the option to extend it for another six months in January, The Sun reports that they are unlikely to, with the club likely to look at other options instead.

Drinkwater has been out of action for Burnley since September, when he was injured in a brawl outside a nightclub.

The Manchester United youth product has played 23 times for Chelsea since joining them from Leicester City in September 2017.
