Burnley want to sign Chelsea captain Gary Cahill on a free transfer this summer, according to a report.

Burnley are reportedly preparing to offer Gary Cahill a contract as the centre-back's Chelsea departure edges nearer.

Cahill has made 290 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions since a 2012 move from Bolton Wanderers.

The 33-year-old will leave the Blues on a free transfer this summer, though, following the expiration of his contract.

According to the Daily Mail, Cahill is determined to stay in the Premier League and Burnley are preparing to offer the former England international a short-term deal.

The defender has only made two Premier League appearances for his current club this season, with David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all above him in the pecking order.

Burnley are currently 15th in the Premier League table heading into their final match of the 2018-19 campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
