Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: 'I don't need assurances over my job'

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says that he does not need assurances over his job with the Premier League champions following eight defeats in 16 games.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that he does not need any more assurances that his job is safe at Stamford Bridge.

Some reports have claimed that the Portuguese coach will be pushed through the exit door if his side lose to Liverpool on Saturday.

Chelsea have had a torrid season so far having lost eight in 16 games in all competitions, the latest of which was against Stoke City in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

Loic Remy struck in the 90th minute to cancel out Jonathan Walters's 51st-minute goal, but the two sides could not be separated in extra time, resulting in a penalty shootout.

The Premier League champions ended up losing 5-4 in the shootout after Jack Butland saved Eden Hazard's penalty.

It has been reported that Carlo Ancelotti would be open to returning to Chelsea as manager should the club make a change, but Mourinho does not seem concerned about his position.

When asked by reporters last night if he had been given any further assurances over his job, the 52-year-old said: "I don't need more. My general situation is fantastic.

"I have a day off tomorrow, a fantastic family. I can sleep well every night. I'm going to enjoy my day and Thursday. It will be one more day like I have had in the last 15 years of my life - honest and dedicated."

Mourinho recently signed a new four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
