Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has joked that owner Roman Abramovich could sack him after finishing third in the Premier League this season.
The Blues, who failed to win a trophy during the 51-year-old's first season back at Stamford Bridge, finished four points adrift of champions Manchester City in the standings.
However, Mourinho has insisted that he does not expect to lose his job this summer.
"Maybe Abramovich will sack me tomorrow, I don't know," Mourinho told Get West London. "But that is not what I was promised, not what we spoke about when we sat down and discussed where Chelsea were [in their development].
"Chelsea started an era in 2003/4 with Abramovich and went in a certain direction. That had an immediate impact - the double title. That team was ready to be successful for a decade.
"That era is now over and we start again, and this season is the first season of a new period. We are doing the work well, we are not asking for eight or nine years to get us success."
Mourinho's side ended their league campaign with a 2-1 win at Cardiff City.
