John Terry happy to be a squad player

Chelsea captain John Terry insists that he has no problems with being left on the bench by manager Rafael Benitez.

Club captain John Terry has insisted that he is willing to fight for his place in the Chelsea team.

The former England defender has failed to regain his regular Blues starting berth since returning from a two-month injury layoff.

Instead, manager Rafael Benitez has preferred Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic at centre-back, but Terry has no qualms with the Spaniard's selection, stating that the club's need is greater than that of any individual.

"It is not about Rafa, me or Frank Lampard, it is not about anybody. It is about this football club winning games and if we are doing that, the fans are happy. That's all they want to see," said Terry.

"If that's with me in the side, great. If not, then I will be their biggest supporter and I'll sit there and support the team like the fans will.

"I'm not silly. I've been out for four months - the other two guys have been playing really well, so it is going to be difficult for me to get back in."

Terry, who has made 15 appearances for Chelsea this season, has been an unused substitute five times during Benitez's tenure.
