Jose Mourinho: 'Current Chelsea squad must win league to be considered greats'

Jose Mourinho reiterates that table-topping Chelsea still have a long way to go before they can start thinking about lifting the Premier League title this season.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has refused to compare his current crop of players to the club's past title-winning sides while warning that there is still a long way to go this season.

The Blues moved seven points clear of second-place Southampton, and eight clear of champions Manchester City, in the table with a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

Despite being backed by many to run away with the title and match the feats of Mourinho's previous title-winning teams of 2005 and 2006, the Chelsea boss remains adamant that the race is far from over.

"I cannot compare teams that won everything with teams that have won nothing," he told reporters. "This team have won nothing. The other team finished a couple of years ago, we have John [Terry] and Didier [Drogba] and nothing else.

"These guys have to win if they want to be seen as a great team, it's not about playing beautiful football or being autumn champions. They have to win titles.

"But when I use 'beautiful' in relation to the football we played in the first half I think we all agree."

Next up for Chelsea domestically is a trip to face Sunderland next weekend, with Schalke 04 up first in the Champions League.
