Sven-Goran Eriksson thinks that Jose Mourinho would be an ideal candidate for the England job when Fabio Capello retires.

Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has suggested that Jose Mourinho would be an ideal candidate for the job as England manager when Fabio Capello retires.

Eriksson sees no problem with the Football Association hiring another foreign manager when Capello leaves the role at the end of the 2012 European Championships.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Jose was a candidate for the England job, absolutely not," said the former England boss.

"Do you think the discussion that you must be English to be the England manager is still going on? I don't think so."

Mourinho is the current manager of Real Madrid, although he has consistently been linked with a return to England after winning the Premier League twice and the FA Cup once during his time with Chelsea.

"Nobody would complain if England were to take Mourinho," Eriksson added.

"I think what he has done during the last ten years makes him perhaps the best, or one of the best, managers around."
