Troy Deeney slams Diego Costa, Juan Carlos Paredes "handbags"

Watford captain Troy Deeney says that he will speak with teammate Juan Carlos Paredes after he was involved in "handbags" with Diego Costa during their goalless draw.

Watford captain Troy Deeney has said that he will speak to teammate Juan Carlos Paredes after he was involved in an incident with Diego Costa during the goalless draw with Chelsea this evening.

The two players clashed right at the end of the first half, both falling to the ground under minimal contact from the other, which resulted in a minor scuffle between the two sides.

Deeney played down the incident, but admitted that he does not like to see play-acting from anyone and will warn Paredes about doing it in the future.

"It's new-age football. A little touch and everyone goes rolling around. My personal opinion was just that the ref has spoken to [Costa] previously, so if he was going to speak to him again then surely it was a yellow card," he told BT Sport.

"To be fair, it's just handbags between everyone. I remember playing Sunday league - that wouldn't have happened. Everyone would have got laughed at. It's just one of those things.

"The age we live in, everyone pushes, everyone rolls around, and it's 'see if we can get the other person sent off'. I don't really like it personally, and I'll be having a word with Paredes on our side."

Both Paredes and Costa received yellow cards from Mike Dean for the incident.
