Antonio Conte wants to build own legacy at Stamford Bridge

Antonio Conte describes Jose Mourinho as an "important" figure in Chelsea's history, whose success he aims to match during his three years - or more - in West London.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed that he intends to build on Jose Mourinho's success at Stamford Bridge to leave his own legacy in place when stepping aside.

The Italian was brought in on a three-year contract this summer following a disappointing 12 months for the Blues, in which they saw their grip on the Premier League title slip away in a dismal fashion.

Mourinho had previously enjoyed great success in West London before being given the shove last December, winning seven trophies across two separate spells - including the English top flight for a third time in his second stint - and Conte now hopes to match that success.

"Jose was a very important manager in the story of this club," he told Sky Sports News. "I hope to work with this club for many years and to build something important, for the present, for the future.

"It's important also to have time to work and to build, because it's important now to work a lot, work really hard and to build something important.

"When I signed my contract with Chelsea I signed for three years. In my mind is to stay here for three years and to build with the club success for this club."

Conte and Mourinho lock horns for the second time in their managerial careers this afternoon, though in the previous meeting - a clash between Inter Milan and Atalanta in Serie A - both men were serving touchline bans.
