Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany, who has been linked with the managerial role at Tottenham Hotspur, signs a new five-year contract at Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany has signed a new five-year contract to remain as Burnley boss, with the Belgian now committed to the club until the summer of 2028.

The 37-year-old managed Anderlecht between 2019 and 2022 before arriving at Burnley last summer, and he has enjoyed an excellent 2022-23 campaign at Turf Moor.

Kompany has led the Clarets back into the Premier League as Championship winners, and the team will be bidding to move onto 101 points for the season when they host Cardiff City on Monday.

The former Manchester City captain has won 33, drawn 15 and lost five of his 53 matches in charge of Burnley, with his work leading to claims that Tottenham Hotspur were interested in appointing him as Antonio Conte's permanent replacement.

However, Kompany has now ended the speculation surrounding his future by penning a contract at Turf Moor until the end of the 2027-28 season.

"Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start - so it also feels right to sign for the next five years," Kompany told the club's official website when the deal was announced.

"Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step."

Meanwhile, Burnley chairman Alan Pace added: We are ecstatic Vincent has signed a new deal! He is the perfect fit for how we all see Burnley football club moving forward.

"An extraordinary leader, setting ever higher standards and driving our club to the levels we all want to achieve."

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Kompany, while there have been suggestions that Man City view him as a long-term replacement for Pep Guardiola.

Burnley have won their last two Championship matches against Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City after a run of three games without a victory in the second tier of English football.

An excellent campaign has seen the Clarets win 28, draw 14 and lose three of their 45 Championship matches, which has left them on 98 points, 10 points clear of second-placed Sheffield United.

Kompany starred for Man City as a player between 2008 and 2019, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four EFL Cup crowns during a highly-successful period.

Burnley will be presented with the Championship trophy after their clash with Cardiff on Monday.
