David Luiz hails "amazing night" for Paris Saint-Germain

David Luiz hails an "amazing night" for Paris Saint-Germain as they beat Chelsea on away goals to move into the last eight of the Champions League.

David Luiz has hailed an "amazing night" for Paris Saint-Germain as they drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to go through to the last eight of the Champions League on away goals.

The Ligue 1 champions made light of having Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent off to go through against Jose Mourinho's side after extra time, and Brazil international Luiz talked up what it means to the French club.

"We played a great game," he told Sky Sports News. "When we lost Ibra, one of the best players in our team, we said to keep it simple and play it to feet because we needed to score to qualify.

"I think it was amazing tonight, every single player gave everything and they scored first but then everyone looked at each other in the eyes and said 'we can do it'. I think it is amazing for everyone, the club, the city and we played a great game. I am happy to be in the next round, but we have a long way to go in the Champions League, because it is so difficult."

Luiz, who left Stamford Bridge in the summer for around £50m, apologised to his former side after celebrating his goal that made it 1-1 in normal time.

He added: "I think my cycle finished at Chelsea and I had a great opportunity at PSG and they gave me the chance to continue my career. I was happy at Chelsea and I respect everyone. I said I wouldn't celebrate [if I scored] but I couldn't control my emotion. I am sorry to them, but I am so happy."

Elsewhere on Wednesday evening, Bayern Munich hammered Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0.
