Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou admits his delight after scoring an "important" away goal in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou has admitted that he was delighted to score an "important" away goal in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Ivorian struck the game's only goal in the second period to give the Blues a lead ahead of the second leg.

"It's a good result, the away goal is very important. It was a good game, everyone worked hard and when you do that as a team it makes it easier to win," the 26-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"Everyone worked hard today. We deserved to win the game and I wasn't worried about the late chances. We are ahead by one goal and we have to get ready for the next game now."

Kalou has 46 international caps to his name.
