Georgios Samaras says it is no surprise that Neil Lennon has been linked with replacing David Moyes at Everton.

Celtic striker Georgios Samaras has insisted that the speculation linking manager Neil Lennon with taking over at Everton was inevitable.

It was announced on Thursday that Toffees boss David Moyes would take over as the new Manchester United chief once Sir Alex Ferguson retires at the end of the season, leaving a vacancy at Goodison Park.

Lennon is the bookies' early favourite for the post, which doesn't surprise the Greece international.

"I haven't heard anything but all I can say is that when you are playing at a high level like the Champions League and doing well then for sure people will come and watch the players or the manager or whoever is part of the team," Samaras told Sky Sports News.

"That is normal. When you are doing well, people will come and watch you. But I don't know what he is thinking or what he wants to do."

Lennon has been in charge of the Glasgow outfit since 2010.
