Celta Vigo, Athletic Bilbao play out goalless draw

Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao play out a goalless draw in their La Liga encounter at Estadio de Balaidos this evening.

Celta Vigo have held high-flying Athletic Bilbao to a goalless draw in tonight's La Liga meeting between the two sides at Estadio de Balaidos.

The hosts were the first to threaten the opposition goal when Fabian Orellana found Santi Mina with a pass, but the Spaniard flashed his volleyed effort just past the far post.

The Galician outfit came close again shortly afterwards as Charles made his way into the box before squeezing a shot away, but he also failed to find the target.

Rafinha was the next to come close for the home side when Orellana did well down the left to find the Brazilian in the box, only for his eventual effort to be deflected high and wide.

Celta came within inches of finally breaking the deadlock right on the stroke of half time when Charles fired an effort against the post after receiving the ball inside the area.

The visitors had a rare chance in the 78th minute as Iker Muniain cut inside before curling a shot towards the far corner, but he just couldn't steer it inside the post.

Bilbao threatened again with just over five minutes of normal time remaining. Oscar de Marcos's low cross caused problems for the Celta defence before Gustavo Cabral finally hacked the ball clear.

Rafinha almost provided a dramatic late winner for the hosts in stoppage time when he curled an effort towards the top corner, but it flew narrowly past the upright.
