Volker Finke sorry for Cameroon display

Cameroon boss Volker Finke apologises for the manner in which his team exited the World Cup.

Cameroon coach Volker Finke has apologised for his team's unceremonious exit from the World Cup this morning following a 4-0 defeat to Croatia.

An ill-tempered game reached boiling point when Alex Song was dismissed for an elbow on Mario Mandzukic, while teammates Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Benjamin Moukandjo also had a physical altercation.

Having lost their opening game to Mexico, Finke's side are now mathematically assured to finish outside the top two in Group A, and the German coach has rallied his troops to salvage some pride by beating Brazil in their final game.

"It wasn't enough for me as coach," he told reporters at full time. "Everybody has to do something more when it's 10 versus 11. After today, we must be clear to prepare for our last game against Brazil.

"Sorry for this result. The style of defending and poor behavior from the red card is why we gave up four goals."

Finke also confirmed that there was an 'unhealthy atmosphere' in the camp following Assou-Ekotto's tussle with Moukandjo.

Ivica Olic opened the scoring on 11 minutes, before Ivan Perisic and a Mandzukic brace sealed an emphatic win in the second half.
