Cambridge United's academy manager Mark Bonner has revealed that the club will "continue to monitor" the progress of Tom Meechan.
The striker, who has scored 44 goals in 39 outings for Thurlow Nunn League side Godmanchester Rovers this season, found the net during an outing for Cambridge's development side yesterday afternoon.
"We've got a good relationship with his club and it was a perfect chance to see him playing in a game and it's something we'll continue to monitor," Bonner told the Cambridge Evening News.
"It's really important if there are good players in the local area doing well that we have a look at them, it would be foolish if we didn't.
"It was good to see him in a game for the first time for us and he did okay, but we had four or five triallists we had a look at for the first time."
The U's won the encounter against Leyton Orient 4-1, with James Akintunde also on the scoresheet.
