Sam Vokes ready to play full part for Wales

Sam Vokes says that he "cannot wait" to represent Wales for the first time in more than a year having been selected in the squad to take on Israel later this month.

Burnley striker Sam Vokes has insisted that he is ready to play the full 90 minutes for Wales following his return to action earlier this year.

The 25-year-old was yesterday named in the Red Dragons' squad for the crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Israel, although boss Chris Coleman later revealed that the 31-time capped forward was unlikely to start in Haifa due to fitness concerns.

However, having continued his comeback with 87 minutes against Premier League champions Manchester City last weekend, Vokes is confident that he has fully overcome the knee injury which saw him miss nine months of action last year.

"It's up to the gaffer, but from my point of view I've got a number of minutes under my belt now," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I played 90 minutes for the team earlier in the year in the FA Cup and it will be good to go away with Wales and get a week's training under my belt and see where it takes me. It's up to me to prove my fitness.

"One of the main things is to get back out there for your club, but the next step is obviously is getting back in the Wales group and starting games there. That's a massive target for me. I can't wait for the game."

Unbeaten Wales are currently second in Group B, one point behind leaders Israel having played one game more than their March 28 opponents.
