Huddersfield Town fight back to draw with Brighton & Hove Albion

Huddersfield Town come from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Championship.

Brighton & Hove Albion have lost their 100% record in the Championship after Huddersfield Town came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at the John Smith's Stadium.

The visitors broke the deadlock just 16 seconds after kickoff, with Tomer Hemed charging forward before crossing in to Beram Kayal, who rifled the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Kayal could have added a second just over 10 minutes in when the early Championship leaders got forward again, but this time the Israeli striker put his finish just wide.

The hosts started to see more of the ball midway through the first half as they attempted to recover from the early setback, but Nakhi Wells fired the ball straight at David Stockdale after Harry Bunn squared it to the striker.

However, it was Brighton who continued to look the more likely in front of goal, with Sam Baldock forcing a save just a couple of minutes before the interval.

The Terriers looked the stronger side early in the second half though as Wells pressed forward, winning a couple of corners before Ishmael Miller forced a save from Stockdale.

Huddersfield were back on level terms less than 10 minutes into the second half as Jacob Butterfield burst down the left, cutting inside before slicing the ball in from a tight angle, besting the stretching keeper to capitalise on the home side's early possession.

Brighton attempted to respond as they looked to protect their 100% record, resulting in Kazenga LuaLua rifling a shot towards the home side's goal from 25 yards out, but he failed to test Joe Murphy.

However, it was the hosts who looked the more likely as the match headed into the final half-hour, as Butterfield played the ball forward for Wells, while no-one was in to connect with a low cross from Jonathan Hogg a couple of minutes later, before Stockdale had to be alert to deny Wells again soon after.

Butterfield could have secured the win for Huddersfield with five minutes remaining as he broke down the left before attempting to beat Stockdale with another finish from a tight angle, but this time the Brighton keeper was ready for it.

The visitors started to look lively again in the final couple of minutes after spending most of the second half on the back foot, but Jamie Murphy's cross in to Chris O'Grady ended up going over the bar.

The result drops Brighton down to second in the Championship table, while Huddersfield, who are still looking for their first win of the season, move up to 18th.
