Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton: "We showed great character"

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton hails his side's character in their 3-2 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road to move to the top of the Championship.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton has praised his side's ability to fend off a second-half comeback from Ipswich Town in their 3-2 win at Portman Road.

The visitors stormed into a 2-0 lead as Kazenga LuaLua and Dale Stephens found the net, but Mick McCarthy's men rallied to level the scores early in the second period.

However, Tomer Hemed restored his side's advantage and the Seagulls held out for the victory.

Hughton told BBC Sport: "It was a super game and a very good spectacle for the Championship.

"We were the better team at 2-0, but the only disappointment for me was that we allowed them to come back to 2-2, which I didn't think was a fair reflection of the game.

"But we showed great character to go on and win the game and overall I thought we had the right balance between defending well and breaking quickly."

Brighton are currently top of the Championship after five matches this season.
