Brentford boss Mark Warburton happy with underdog status

Brentford manager Mark Warburton believes that his side's tag as plucky underdogs can work in their favour as they challenge for promotion from the Championship.

Brentford manager Mark Warburton has expressed his belief that the team can use their tag as plucky underdogs to their advantage.

The Bees, who won promotion from League One last season, sit fourth in the Championship after 29 games.

The West London outfit cemented their position in the table with a 1-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

"People keep saying little old Brentford. I think a little more respect should be due to players who have worked that well," Warburton told The Richmond and Twickenham Times.

"Little old Brentford are coming here and playing well, we created a lot of chances. As long as we're little old Brentford that works for us. But people will see we're not little old Brentford out on the pitch any more.

"People keep referring to Brentford as hard working, committed, more direct and 'better than I thought they would be'. I think we're better than that, but as long as people take us lightly, the better it will be."

Brentford face promotion rivals Watford at Griffin Park on Tuesday.
