Brentford boss Dean Smith warns Aston Villa over Neal Maupay appeal

Brentford boss Dean Smith warns Aston Villa that the Bees will launch an appeal of their own if the West Midlands outfit look for retrospective action for Neal Maupay.

Brentford boss Dean Smith has suggested that Aston Villa should not pursue retrospective action for Neal Maupay.

The two Championship clubs played out a 2-2 draw at Villa Park on Wednesday night, but Brentford were fortunate not to be reduced to 10 men when Maupay appeared to stamp on John McGinn.

Steve Bruce has claimed that the striker deserves a retrospective three-match ban, but Smith has indicated that the Bees are unhappy with Mile Jedinak's part in the incident.

Smith told BBC Radio London: "If you remember the incident, Mile Jedinak fell over, got up and then smashed Neal in the back of the head so, if they are looking at retrospective for Neal, then we'll do so for Jedinak."

Brentford currently sit in fourth place in the second-tier standings.
