Bournemouth's Eddie Howe hits back at Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy's money claims

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe denies claims from Ipswich Town counterpart Mick McCarthy that the Cherries are a big-spending team.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has responded to claims from Ipswich Town counterpart Mick McCarthy that the Cherries' success this season is down to money.

On multiple occasions this season, McCarthy has referred to big-money deals involving Bournemouth and stated: "I'm not feeling the homely little Bournemouth thing."

Most recently, the Ipswich boss alluded to the Cherries' capture of Kenwyne Jones, who came off the bench to score their equaliser at Portman Road in Good Friday's top-six Championship clash.

Bournemouth are said to be paying all of the striker's £36,000-a-week wages, but Howe feels that it is unfair criticism.

"The only thing that irks me is when people say things that are factually incorrect," he told the Daily Echo. "Mick likes to talk a lot about our financial dealings and it's not my style to comment back.

"All I will say is that in the build-up to the game, he spoke about Tokelo Rantie and Callum Wilson but forgot to mention we sold Lewis Grabban and I think you have to be fair and balanced.

"Our net trading from transfer fees in the summer was zero so to suggest we have built our success on money, I don't buy and it's factually incorrect so I would like to put that straight."

By drawing in Suffolk, Bournemouth gave up top spot in the Championship but still lie in the automatic promotion places as they chase Premier League football for the first time in their history.
