Borussia Monchengladbach battle past Hertha Berlin

Borussia Monchengladbach return to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Hertha Berlin.

Borussia Monchengladbach have returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga with a 3-2 victory over Hertha Berlin.

It was a bright start from the hosts, and they took the lead in just the ninth minute when Tony Jantschke dropped to his knees inside the box to head home from Thorgan Hazard's free kick.

Monchengladbach continued to dominate following the opener, but they missed a great opportunity to double the lead midway through the first half when both Raffael and Max Kruse saw their low efforts saved by Thomas Kraft.

Kraft's double save boosted the visitors, who equalised just moments before the interval when Joselu used space in the penalty area to head in an inviting cross from Anis Ben-Hatira.

The hosts put the pressure on again after the break, and Kraft was forced into action again to get a strong hand on Granit Xhaka's long-range strike.

However, Kraft could do nothing to prevent Monchengladbach from regaining the lead nine minutes into the second half when Alvaro Dominguez picked out the run of Raffael, who held his nerve to fire home.

It was the home side who piled the pressure on in the closing stages as Kraft made another fine save to deny Ibrahima Traore, but the Hertha goalkeeper's efforts were not enough to prevent his side from suffering defeat.

The impressive Hazard appeared to complete the victory by latching on to a loose ball in the box to finish emphatically.

Hertha would set up a nervy finish when Salomon Kalou fired home a penalty after Jantschke had brought down the Ivorian in the box, but the hosts were unable to avoid the loss.
