Borussia Monchengladbach, Mainz 05 keep unbeaten starts intact

Mainz 05 hold Borussia Monchengladbach to a 1-1 draw at Borussia-Park to see both sides' unbeaten starts to the season continue.

Borussia Monchengladbach and Mainz 05 both remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season having played out a 1-1 draw at Borussia-Park this evening.

The hosts nearly took the lead early on when Raffael's low drive looked to be heading for the bottom corner, only for Loris Karius to get down to deny the effort.

Max Kruse did manage to find a way through on 15 minutes, though, slamming the ball home from inside the box to put Die Fohlen ahead.

Gladbach's advantage did not last too long, with Borussia Dortmund loanee Jonas Hofmann tucking away a penalty after Julian Korb was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.

The second half lacked any clear cut chances, although Loris Karius was called into action five minutes from time to keep out Andre Hahn's strike, as Lucien Favre's charges pushed for all three points.

There was still time for Raffael to try his luck once more, although the Brazilian attacking midfielder saw his effort thwarted by the Mainz defence.

Monchengladbach move up to third in the league table following the draw, while Mainz remain in a European spot in sixth place.
